Some conspiracy theory....

 

Why is the computer in the film call "HAL" ?

 

If you use alphabet arithmetic (ie. A+1=B, B+1=C , C+1=D,...etc.)

then

HAL becomes H+1,A+1,L+1 => IBM !!

 

Anybody heard this before ?
